Automation Specialist – Emerson DeltaV Control System

Maderra Personnel is seeking a skilled Automation Specialist with extensive experience in Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS). This position may be performed in both remote and site-based environments depending on project requirements, including an 8 days on / 6 days off rotational schedule for site assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, configure, and implement automation solutions using Emerson DeltaV DCS platforms.
- Develop and modify control modules, batch strategies, graphics, alarms, historian configurations, and operator interfaces within DeltaV systems.
- Perform troubleshooting and resolve issues related to DCS hardware, software, controllers, networks, and field communications.
- Support DeltaV system upgrades, migrations, expansions, and lifecycle management activities.
- Conduct system testing, validation, loop checks, and commissioning activities for automation systems.
- Participate in and/or facilitate HAT, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
- Review and interpret engineering documentation including control narratives, shutdown keys, cause & effect matrices, P&IDs, alarm lists, and wiring drawings.
- Configure and maintain DeltaV Continuous Historian, Batch Executive, and system security functions as required.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project teams to ensure reliable and safe plant operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to system configurations, backups, modifications, and operational procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, cybersecurity requirements, and industry safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Emerson DeltaV DCS systems in industrial or process control environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV configuration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
- Experience with DeltaV controllers, workstations, virtual environments, and system architecture.
- Experience with DeltaV Live, Batch, SIS, or AMS Device Manager is considered an asset.
- Drawing reviews including Control Narratives, Shutdown Keys, Alarm Lists, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Participate in and/or facilitate HAT, FAT, and SAT activities.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Foundation Fieldbus.
- Experience with control system networking, virtualization, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Strong understanding of process control principles, instrumentation, and alarm management.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently in both remote and site-based project environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work rotational site schedules as required by project demands.
