The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse is responsible for providing specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill and medically complex patients. The ICU RN monitors patient conditions, operates advanced life-support equipment, administers medications and treatments, and collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes. This role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, and the ability to respond effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients.
• Continuously monitor patient conditions, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms.
• Recognize changes in patient status and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Develop and update individualized care plans based on patient needs.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and specialized treatments.
• Manage ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and other critical care equipment.
• Assist with emergency procedures and resuscitation efforts as needed.
• Monitor and care for patients requiring advanced life support and complex medical treatments.
• Patient & Family Support
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
• Provide emotional support and compassionate care during critical and often stressful situations.
• Serve as a patient advocate while promoting patient safety and quality care.
• Work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and clinical care planning.
• Coordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges as appropriate.
• Documentation & Compliance

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe.
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
