The Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients diagnosed with cancer throughout the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life support. This role is responsible for assessing patient needs, administering oncology treatments, monitoring patient responses, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and delivering patient and family education while ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality, safety, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for oncology patients.
• Monitor patient condition, treatment progress, and response to therapy.
• Assess and manage symptoms including pain, nausea, fatigue, infection risk, and treatment-related side effects.
• Document patient care accurately and timely within the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Safely administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, blood products, and supportive medications according to established protocols.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions and initiate appropriate interventions when needed.
• Manage and maintain central venous access devices, ports, PICC lines, and peripheral IVs.
• Verify treatment orders and collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other care team members to ensure patient safety.
• Patient & Family Education
• Educate patients and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medication management, and potential side effects.
• Provide guidance on symptom management, wellness, nutrition, and follow-up care.
• Offer emotional support and resources to patients and families throughout their cancer journey.
• Collaborate with oncologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, navigators, and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Facilitate referrals and coordinate diagnostic testing, treatments, and follow-up appointments.
• Advocate for patients and support continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Adhere to all organizational policies, oncology standards of practice, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
• Maintain competency in oncology nursing practices and emerging cancer therapies.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Minimum 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
