Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of advanced electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic technologies for large-engine applications.

As a member of the Large Engine Controls team, you will develop, simulate, and test control strategies designed to optimize engine performance, efficiency, and emissions. This is an individual contributor role that requires strong expertise in engine controls, dynamic system modeling, and simulation-based development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define and refine engine control system requirements.
  • Design and evaluate control features using dynamic feedback control principles.
  • Apply time- and frequency-domain analysis, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) control, digital signal processing, filter design, and logical control methods.
  • Develop and maintain Model-in-the-Loop simulation frameworks using MATLAB/Simulink and GT-Power.
  • Use simulation models to design, test, and verify engine control algorithms.
  • Model dynamic systems using physics-based white-box models, black-box approaches, and system identification techniques.
  • Analyze simulation results and provide timely, high-quality design recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Support product development initiatives, including New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, and Continuous Product Improvement.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams, cross-functional partners, leadership, and external suppliers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience developing engine control systems for gas, diesel, and dual-fuel engines, including aftertreatment systems.
  • Strong knowledge of classical control theory and its application to MIMO systems in both time and frequency domains.
  • Advanced proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience designing and verifying control concepts using GT-Power engine models.
  • Strong background in dynamic system modeling, including white-box modeling, black-box modeling, and system identification.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex engineering concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively as an individual contributor.
  • Previous involvement in NPI, NTI, or CPI product development processes.
