Build a Long-Term Career in Advanced Electrical Power & Control Systems

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

Hourly Pay Range: $38/hour - $45/hour

Step into a role where expertise is valued, innovation is encouraged, and every project brings a new challenge. As a Senior Power Generation Technician, you'll work hands-on with high-demand Caterpillar power systems, diagnose complex issues, and ensure reliable operation of critical electrical equipment. This is a career built for problem solvers, tech-minded professionals, and field leaders who thrive on independence and take pride in doing elite-level work.

If you enjoy mastering sophisticated systems, programming controls, and staying at the forefront of power technology — this is your team.

What You’ll Do

You’ll become the go-to expert for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading power generation systems and control networks. Each day brings new technical puzzles and opportunities to think creatively while supporting customers who rely on uninterrupted power.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze service assignments, diagnose issues efficiently, and deliver solutions with precision

  • Read & interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, control logic, and technical manuals

  • Utilize math-based diagnostics to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical failures

  • Maintain strong workflow efficiency (goal of 85% productivity)

  • Document service work, system findings, and time entries accurately

  • Work confidently with system architecture — processors, power supplies, I/O modules, communication modules, etc.

  • Be proficient with monitoring systems, Modbus communications, and remote data/parameter uploads

  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC systems across multiple platforms

  • Understand UPS theory/operation and pursue ongoing technical product training

  • Train customers on system operation — be a clear communicator and technology educator

  • Fabricate or adjust components when required to meet custom project specifications

  • Prioritize safety at all times when working around live high-power circuits

  • Participate in emergency/on-call rotation for rapid response support when needed

What You Bring to the Team

We're looking for resourceful thinkers — people who enjoy diving deep into complex systems, solving problems independently, and continuously sharpening their craft.

Education & Experience

External Applicants:

  • 5+ years working directly with switchgear, UPS, ATS systems

  • Completion of accredited PLC programming & operation training

Internal Applicants:

  • Minimum 3 years as a top-tier Master-level EPG technician

  • PLC training certification required

A technical trade degree in electrical or diesel technology may reduce required work experience.

Technical Strengths That Set You Apart

You thrive when working with:

  • Electrical & mechanical power generation systems

  • Diesel, gas, and LP engines

  • Lubrication, cooling, and fuel systems

  • Generator operation — permanent magnet & self-excited

  • Engine/voltage regulation, breakers, KVAR & power factor control

  • UPS systems, battery charging/energy storage, power conditioning equipment

  • Monitoring systems & industrial communication protocols

  • PLC-based industrial control logic and programming

  • Load bank testing, surge suppression, remote monitoring

  • Lock-out/Tag-out & safe high-voltage work practices

You are comfortable using and interpreting data from oscilloscopes, meters, harmonic analyzers, ladder logic, schematics, and test equipment — with solid math reasoning to match.

Physical & Work Expectations

  • Safely lift and position parts/materials (up to approx. 137 lbs with assist equipment available)

  • Use company vehicle for field assignments — sometimes including overnight travel

  • Strong written service reporting skills

  • Able to work independently and represent the company professionally at customer sites

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license (CDL may be needed for certain vehicles)
