Job Description
We are a well-established underground utility contractor seeking a skilled and dependable
Excavator Operator to join our team. This is a hands-on position for an experienced operator who
understands the precision, safety, and responsibility required when working around existing
utilities, active job sites, and deep excavations.

 

Key Responsibilities
• Safely and efficiently operate excavators for trenching, grading, backfilling, pipe
installation, and other underground utility work.
• Excavate around existing utilities with extreme care and attention to detail.
• Dig accurately to the required line and grade for pipe bedding, installation, and
alignment.
• Work closely with pipe layers, foremen, spotters, and other crew members to complete
work safely and on schedule.
• Read and interpret utility plans, blueprints, grade information, and site layouts.
• Follow trenching and excavation safety requirements and the instructions of the site’s
competent person.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance and promptly report
mechanical or safety concerns.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all company safety and
environmental procedures.
• Assist with related crew duties when operational needs require.

 

Qualifications
• Minimum of two years of excavator operating experience on underground utility or heavy
civil construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience with deep trenching, backfilling, grading, shoring operations,
and working in restricted areas.
• Ability to dig accurately to line and grade.
• Knowledge of safe excavation practices and working around existing underground
utilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with spotters, ground personnel, truck drivers, and
supervisors.
• Must be dependable, punctual, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license required.
