CNC Mill Operator / Setup Technician
Location: Mishawaka, Indiana

Reports To: Production Manager or Manufacturing Supervisor

Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Mill Operator / Setup Technician to join our manufacturing team in Mishawaka, Indiana. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC milling machines to produce high-quality precision components while meeting production, quality, and safety standards. This position requires strong machining knowledge, setup experience, blueprint reading skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC milling machines, including fixtures, tooling, work offsets, and machine parameters.
- Operate CNC mills to produce components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and GD&T requirements.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Adjust machine offsets and tooling as necessary to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Load programs, verify setups, and ensure machines are operating efficiently.
- Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce scrap.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and daily machine housekeeping.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to support manufacturing objectives.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2-4 years of CNC mill setup and operation experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Experience with CNC milling machines and common machine controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar.
- Knowledge of machining practices, cutting tools, feeds, and speeds.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree, machining certification, or apprenticeship completion.
- Experience setting up 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis CNC milling machines.
- Familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or GibbsCAM.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience machining a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and handling of tooling and materials.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
