Build the data backbone for nationwide federal travel transformation
Your data architecture will power the core financial infrastructure behind GSA GO.gov—the next-generation Travel & Expense (T&E) platform built to serve civilian federal employees across all government agencies for the next 15 years.
As an AWS Data Engineer, you will design and implement secure cloud-native data stores, serverless components, and event-driven architectures for a large-scale enterprise financial system. You will lead hands-on data modeling, enforce robust cloud security controls, automate infrastructure deployment, and build seamless integrations with core API services.
If you bring deep AWS serverless expertise, hands-on DynamoDB mastery, and a passion for building resilient, high-performance cloud data architectures, this role offers an exceptional platform to make a lasting impact on federal IT modernization.
What you’ll do
-
Design enterprise data stores: Architect and deploy secure, scalable AWS cloud data stores and serverless backend components supporting core financial data operations.
-
Optimize DynamoDB performance: Develop and refine DynamoDB access patterns, single-table designs, security controls, indexing strategies, and automated backup/recovery capabilities.
-
Build serverless architectures: Construct event-driven pipelines and microservices leveraging AWS Lambda, CloudWatch, KMS, and IAM.
-
Automate infrastructure: Author, test, and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates using Terraform to drive repeatable and compliant deployments.
-
Develop software & APIs: Write clean, efficient code in Python or Node.js to connect database solutions with enterprise API services and external integrations.
-
Drive CI/CD & DevOps standards: Implement and maintain Git-based CI/CD pipelines to streamline automated cloud infrastructure and code deployment workflows.
What you’ll bring
-
4+ years of hands-on experience architecting, building, and maintaining production-grade, AWS cloud-native solutions.
-
Proven DynamoDB expertise: Deep experience with DynamoDB data modeling, performance optimization, access patterns, and query design.
-
Strong AWS core knowledge: Advanced proficiency with AWS IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, and Lambda.
-
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficient in Terraform (or equivalent IaC frameworks) for cloud automation.
-
Software Development: Hands-on development experience in Python and/or Node.js.
-
CI/CD Mastery: Solid experience with Git-based version control and continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
-
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience documenting technical designs cleanly.
Preferred Qualifications
-
AWS Certified Data Analytics, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified Developer certifications.
-
Prior experience delivering data solutions within federal cloud or government agency environments (GSA, FedRAMP compliance standards).
Why this opportunity stands out
-
15-Year Enterprise Impact: Help build the foundation of the 3rd-generation federal travel and expense system that will power government operations for over a decade.
-
Modern Cloud Stack: Work directly with cutting-edge serverless technologies, NoSQL modeling, and Terraform automation.
-
Mission-Critical Engineering: Own security-first data architecture for high-concurrency enterprise financial services.
-
Growth & Flexibility: Collaborate with top-tier cloud engineers in a supportive, modern delivery ecosystem.
