Data Governance Lead

Location: Washington, District of Columbia

Job Type: Direct Hire

Workplace: Hybrid (Washington, DC Metropolitan Area)

Compensation: $150,000 - $175,000 / yr

The Opportunity

We are recruiting exclusively on behalf of a premier data and technology innovation hub and certified Benefit Corporation working at the center of the U.S. federal government’s mission. Founded on the conviction that the best solutions come from trusting skilled people, they give their teams real ownership, intellectual freedom, and the support needed to solve complex federal challenges.

They do not hire just to fill seats—they place top-tier technical talent where the hardest problems are. If you are looking for an environment where business success directly creates client value, social value, and long-term professional growth, this is the team for you.

Your First Assignment

In this role, your initial assignment is to drive enterprise-level data governance for a key federal agency utilizing Microsoft Purview. You will establish and enforce the policies, standards, and processes behind the management, quality, cataloging, and security of enterprise data.

(Note: This is where you start. As the firm continues its rapid growth, you will have opportunities to expand responsibilities, shape best practices, and spin up new organizational capabilities.)

What You'll Lead

  • Microsoft Purview Administration: Configure and administer Microsoft Purview for data cataloging, automated discovery, data classification, and continuous governance.
  • Governance Frameworks & Glossaries: Oversee the enterprise data catalog, business glossary, metadata management, and end-to-end data lineage.
  • Stewardship & Accountability: Work closely with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and technical teams to establish operational accountability and strengthen data quality practices across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate cross-functional governance discussions and workshops, translating complex requirements into decisive, actionable policy.
  • Sustainable Documentation: Develop frameworks, standards, and process guidelines that ensure long-term adoption and measurable governance success.

Who You Are

You turn governance from a static policy binder into a vibrant system people use every single day. You are just as comfortable configuring Purview settings as you are leading a workshop with executive data owners. You are a self-starter who experiments, learns quickly, and prefers taking full ownership of an outcome over simply completing assigned tasks.

What You Bring to the Table (Requirements)

  • Clearance: United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination are required for this engagement.
  • Location: Hybrid arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with commuting cadence dependent on team assignment.
  • Core Experience: 7+ years of dedicated data governance or data management experience, supported by a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Purview Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring and administering Microsoft Purview (cataloging, classification, lineage, and business glossary).
  • Governance Fundamentals: Deep knowledge of metadata management, data security, data quality concepts, and stewardship frameworks.
  • Communication & Leadership: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to lead complex initiatives and manage cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Technical Tooling: High proficiency in documentation, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Bonus Points (Preferred): Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Databricks services.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $150,000 to $175,000 per year.
  • Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of the employee premium fully paid and 50% of dependent premiums covered.
  • Financial & Retirement Perks: A 401(k) matched 100% up to 4% of salary (vesting immediately); employer-paid life, AD&D, and short-term/long-term disability insurance.
  • Work-Life Balance: Unlimited paid time off (PTO) in a trust-based work environment.
  • Growth & Development: Sponsored professional certifications (e.g., DCAM, AWS) and structured functional rotations.
