Civil/Structural Engineer – Steel III
Overview:
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Civil/Structural Engineer – Steel III to lead the technical execution of steel structure repair projects. This position plays a critical role across all phases of project delivery—from design development and submittal preparation to client approvals and material procurement. The successful candidate will ensure that all field operations comply with project specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the design development of steel structure repair projects, maintaining familiarity with the full inspection, engineering, and repair workflow.
Coordinate all design, modeling, and drafting tasks, leveraging both internal and subcontracted engineering and drafting teams.
Prepare and document structural calculations in accordance with applicable codes, industry standards, and customer specifications.
Collaborate with fabricators and vendors to optimize materials and processes for cost-effective and high-quality repairs.
Partner with Business Development and Product Management teams to explore new product opportunities and support pilot projects through field evaluations, data collection, and reporting.
Contribute to R&D initiatives by participating in fieldwork, performing tests, analyzing data, and drafting comprehensive reports.
Engage with engineering peers to discuss and review design methodologies, approaches, and deliverables.
Support field personnel with implementation of new repair methods and techniques, ensuring alignment with project goals and client expectations.
Assist the Engineering Manager in developing and maintaining drawing standards and technical specifications for steel structure repairs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) from an accredited institution.
5–6 years of experience in structural design and analysis.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, PLS-CADD, RISA 3D, or tnx Tower is a plus.
Skilled in AutoCAD (2D and 3D).
Strong familiarity with AISC, ACI, and ASCE codes and standards.
Experience in utility (power or communication) structure design is preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders.
Flexibility to travel overnight and work varied hours, occasionally in challenging weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, sit, and use hands for detailed work.
Requires clear vision (near, far, and color) and ability to adjust focus.
Must be capable of lifting up to 10 pounds.
