About the Site and Role:
This is a large union manufacturing facility that has been operating for many years. The parent company is a global company and they have multiple facilities in the United States and around the world. The Head of Manufacturing (to whom this role reports) said that they have strong maintenance and capital teams on-site.
There are a few things they are looking for this person to come in an address at the site:
- Puzzle-master: like with anything that runs as a system, the cause of a problem isn’t usually just one thing. Sometimes it’s the technology, sometimes it’s personnel, sometimes it’s the equipment and/or procedures. They need someone who is good at figuring out what’s really going on, where the weak spots are that need to be addressed and who is good at driving those changes
- Be the rising water: “rising water lifts all boats” – some of the workforce and many of the procedures and tracking items need to be brought up to the right level here; they need the type of leader who can drive performance and who can make the teams they have better
Minimum Requirements:
- Ideally a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Previous union experience is nearly a must-have
- An ideal candidate would be coming out of PSM-regulated chemicals; it’s not so much that this plant has a lot of PSM processes, but the kind of discipline that comes from having that kind of background
- Must have managed a plant of at least 75-100 people
- Must have managed an operating budget for a decent-sized facility
