Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (with rotation-based variations)
About the Opportunity
A pathology practice in the Coastal Texas region is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to support surgical pathology services across multiple facilities. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of specimen types and provides strong professional growth in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination, dissection, and preparation of surgical pathology specimens
- Accession specimens and gather appropriate clinical information
- Prepare tissues for histologic processing and special procedures
- Assist with frozen sections as needed across multiple facilities
- Photograph gross specimens and document findings accurately
- Support autopsy-related tasks as required
- Maintain surgical pathology protocols, reports, and related documentation
- Participate in quality initiatives and troubleshooting of complex cases
- Provide training or guidance to staff as needed
- Assist with scheduling to ensure consistent workflow coverage
- Uphold safety, compliance, and quality standards within the laboratory
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science
- Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
Experience:
- New graduates welcomed
- Experience performing grossing, frozen sections, and related tasks preferred
Requirements:
- Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test
- Completion of required continuing education per ASCP or state guidelines
Schedule Details
- Standard hours: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- When scheduled on first-shift grossing: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
- When scheduled on second-shift grossing: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
- Call coverage is required
- Grossing performed primarily at the Regional Lab
