Laboratory Operations Manager
The Lab Operations Manager oversees daily operations of the pathology laboratory, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and compliant services across histology, cytology, grossing, and accessioning. This role supports pathologists, leads laboratory staff, and maintains regulatory readiness.
Key Responsibilities

Manage daily workflow, staffing, scheduling, and turnaround time across AP departments.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and state regulations.

Maintain SOPs, quality programs, competency assessments, and audit readiness.

Oversee hiring, training, performance evaluations, and staff development.

Monitor inventory, equipment, and vendor relationships.

Improve processes, support new technology/test implementation, and optimize efficiency.

Coordinate with pathologists, clinicians, and administrative leadership on operational needs.

Manage budgets, productivity metrics, and resource allocation.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory or biological science (required).

3–5+ years of clinical laboratory experience; supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge of histology, cytology, and pathology workflows.

Understanding of CLIA/CAP requirements.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

ASCP certification preferred (HT/HTL/MLS/PA(ASCP)).

ASCP certification (HT, HTL, MLS, PA(ASCP), or similar).

Experience with pathology-specific LIS systems (e.g., CoPath, Beaker AP, PowerPath).

Experience in a high-volume AP or molecular pathology environment.

Lean/Six Sigma training or process improvement background.
