Director of Business Development
Location: Remote (preference for candidates near a major airport)
A rapidly growing diagnostics and life sciences organization developing innovative technologies that improve diagnostic accuracy and laboratory workflow across oncology, genetic testing, and cytogenetics laboratories.
This role will lead the commercial expansion of specialized cytogenetics laboratory products across the U.S. laboratory market.
Role Overview
The Director of Business Development is a highly strategic commercial role responsible for driving national revenue growth and expanding market adoption of cytogenetics laboratory products.
This individual will lead direct sales initiatives, develop strategic accounts, and manage distributor relationships to accelerate product adoption within clinical cytogenetics laboratories.
The role requires a unique combination of scientific credibility within cytogenetics laboratories and a proven track record in diagnostics or life sciences product sales.
This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to shape the commercial growth of differentiated cytogenetics laboratory products within a rapidly expanding diagnostics company.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive revenue growth for the cytogenetics product portfolio across clinical laboratory markets.
- Develop and execute a national commercial strategy targeting cytogenetics laboratories, academic medical centers, reference labs, and biotechnology organizations.
- Identify, engage, and close new business opportunities within clinical cytogenetics laboratories.
- Develop and manage distributor partnerships to expand market reach, generate pipeline opportunities, and accelerate product adoption.
- Build and expand relationships with laboratory directors, cytogeneticists, and laboratory leadership.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through contract negotiation and implementation.
- Represent the organization at industry meetings, conferences, and scientific events.
- Deliver technical product presentations and support product demonstrations for laboratory teams.
- Provide market insights and customer feedback to internal leadership to support product development and commercial strategy.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Cytogenetics, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in diagnostics, life sciences, or laboratory reagent/media sales.
- 5+ years of experience working in a cytogenetics laboratory environment.
- Proven ability to sell into clinical laboratories, academic institutions, and reference labs.
- Strong scientific credibility and ability to communicate effectively with laboratory professionals.
- Demonstrated success managing a full sales cycle and driving new business growth.
- Ability to travel for key accounts, laboratory visits, and industry conferences.
Preferred
- Experience selling cytogenetics laboratory products, media, or reagents.
- Existing relationships within the cytogenetics laboratory community.
- Experience working with distribution or channel partners.
- Strong understanding of cytogenetics laboratory workflows and purchasing processes.
