Cytology Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cytology Manager with strong expertise in Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) to join a high-complexity, CLIA-certified laboratory. This individual will oversee cytology operations while actively performing and reviewing advanced diagnostic testing, including UroVysion FISH analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform microscopic evaluation of gynecologic (Pap smears) and non-gynecologic specimens
- Interpret and analyze FISH assays (UroVysion preferred) using fluorescent microscopy
- Oversee and manage cytology and FISH technologists, providing leadership and guidance
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and applicable regulatory standards
- Review slides for quality, accuracy, and completeness
- Maintain and monitor quality assurance and quality control programs
- Support molecular pathology operations as needed
- Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory leadership to ensure diagnostic accuracy
- Communicate technical issues and implement solutions as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological or related scientific field
- ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) required
- Minimum of 5 years of cytology experience
- Required: Hands-on experience with FISH (UroVysion strongly preferred)
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a laboratory setting
- Strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, CMS, and state regulatory requirements
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
