Job Title: Director of Business Development – Oncology

 

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Director of Business Development – Oncology to develop and grow high-value relationships with major oncology organizations, health systems, academic institutions, and specialty physician networks.

This is a Director of Business Development role focused on C-suite engagement, complex solution selling, partnership development, and long-term account growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of oncology and diagnostics, an established network of executive-level relationships, and a proven track record of managing complex healthcare accounts. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for complex oncology and healthcare organizations.
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with C-suite executives and senior decision-makers across oncology, pathology, health systems, academia, and specialty physician organizations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand strategic partnerships and develop new business within key accounts.
  • Understand customer needs and develop comprehensive diagnostic, laboratory, and healthcare solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead complex sales and account-growth initiatives from opportunity identification through contract negotiation and implementation.
  • Establish trusted-advisor relationships with senior healthcare executives and organizational leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to expand account relationships through new programs, technologies, diagnostic offerings, and integrated solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across clinical, commercial, technology, operations, marketing, and other business functions to develop and implement customer solutions.
  • Coordinate internal resources to ensure successful execution of strategic account initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities involving clinical pathways, EMR integration, workflow optimization, and other technology-enabled solutions.
  • Develop strategies that increase customer engagement, retention, and long-term partnership value.
  • Monitor oncology market trends, customer needs, competitive activity, and emerging diagnostic opportunities.
  • Identify potential strategic partnerships, technology opportunities, and other avenues for business growth.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline and accurately manage forecasting, account activity, productivity, and closing metrics.
  • Travel throughout Texas and the broader assigned territory to meet with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in oncology, diagnostics, precision medicine, strategic account management, business development, or complex healthcare solutions selling.
  • Proven success managing large, complex strategic accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience selling to or partnering with C-suite and senior executive stakeholders.
  • Strong contract negotiation and business development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop long-term customer relationships and identify account-growth opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of the oncology and healthcare landscape.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Existing relationships with major oncology organizations or healthcare systems in Texas.
  • Experience working with community oncology organizations, academic cancer centers, health systems, or large physician groups.
  • Background in oncology diagnostics, molecular diagnostics, pathology, genomics, or precision medicine.
  • Experience working with urology, gastroenterology, dermatology, or other oncology-adjacent specialties.
  • Experience with EMR integration, clinical pathways, or diagnostic product launches.
  • Experience developing enterprise-level healthcare solutions.
  • Experience working within complex, cross-functional or matrixed organizations.
  • Background in market access, strategic partnerships, project management, or healthcare consulting.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, Healthcare, or a related field.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior oncology or diagnostics account-management professional with a strong track record of managing complex healthcare relationships and influencing decision-makers at the executive level.

This individual should be comfortable engaging directly with C-suite leaders, understanding complex organizational needs, developing strategic account plans, and coordinating internal resources to deliver solutions.

Candidates with an established network within Texas oncology organizations and experience managing large strategic accounts will be especially well positioned for success.
