THE OPPORTUNITY
Pro Services Workforce Solutions has partnered with a Fortune 500 corrugated packaging manufacturer to fill this Direct Hire opportunity for an Industrial Maintenance Technician at their New Oxford, PA facility.
There are multiple openings on 2nd and 3rd shift. We're currently hiring one technician for 2nd shift and one technician for 3rd shift.
This is a multicraft role, electrical and mechanical. You'll keep carton-making equipment running, including flatbed and rotary die cutters, offset presses, gluers, Asitrades, and sheeters. Techs who lean heavier on the electrical side are a great fit here too, and the pay range reflects that.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We're a Fortune 500 manufacturer with more than 16,000 employees across the U.S. We have a stable customer base in a recession-resistant industry, and our business is built on partnership: we solve problems for our customers, we don't just sell them a box.
Promoting from within is our number one goal. That same team mentality shows up on the floor, with a good working relationship between management and our hourly team.
Our New Oxford plant produces at a high level and has seen multiple equipment upgrades in the recent past.
Pro Services is recruiting for this site and stands behind this team as a place where skilled technicians can build a long-term career.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You're solid on both the electrical and mechanical side. If you're stronger in one, that's okay. This team will help you fill the gaps. What matters most is that you're determined and willing to put in the effort to figure things out. You're not afraid to ask questions, and you'll pick up the phone and call the OEM when that's the right move.
You don't put a bandaid on a problem and leave it for the next shift. You take ownership, follow through, and care about the plant running well and putting out a good product. When a machine is down, you dig into the root cause instead of guessing, and you're comfortable stepping up and taking charge of a situation when it calls for it.
You get along with the people around you, especially operators. You'll ask how their day is going and what their machine is doing, because they know how it should run and you want that partnership with production. You're easygoing, willing to help, and dependable: when you're on the schedule, you're there. Safety, Pride, Integrity, and Teamwork mean something to you.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
■ Maintain all converting and corrugating equipment to minimize downtime and keep machines running at available capacity and speed.
■ Handle reactive and planned work on both the electrical and mechanical side, plus proactive and predictive maintenance. This plant focuses on preventive over reactive work, and machine uptime is high.
■ Parallel rolls and make all required settings and adjustments so equipment runs at optimum performance and produces quality product.
■ Troubleshoot PLC hardware on Allen-Bradley systems, and troubleshoot and repair AC and DC drives and their control systems.
■ Swap VFDs, many of which use faceplates that save the drive parameters.
■ Cover basic steam generator tasks, like startup and shutdown, changing a steam line, and cleaning out a trap. The OEM handles PMs and major work.
■ Work with OEM techs when they're onsite, and use remote OEM support to walk through issues and repairs on most machines.
■ Follow up on all work to make sure repairs are done properly.
■ Use the maintenance software and complete all paperwork neatly and correctly.
■ Follow all plant procedures, protocols, and safety policies, and help keep work areas clean.
WHAT YOU BRING
■ 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
■ Basic mechanical skills, including the ability to read mechanical diagrams and schematics.
■ Basic electrical skills, including control voltage (0–24V), 110–240V single phase, and 480V three phase work.
■ PLC hardware troubleshooting experience.
■ Your own basic standard and metric hand tools.
■ Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift, Saturdays, and overtime as needed, after your training period on day shift.
NICE TO HAVE
■ Intermediate or advanced electrical and mechanical experience.
■ Mechanical rebuild experience, plus work on corrugated systems, conveyors, bearings, shafts and seals, and gearboxes.
■ Experience with meters, cabinet troubleshooting, electrical schematics, motors, servos, VFDs, transformers, relays, I/O modules, wiring, sensors, HMIs, and robots.
■ Pump experience (positive displacement, air diaphragm, centrifugal), plus hydraulic and pneumatic work, including hydraulic cylinder rebuilds.
■ MIG, TIG, or stick welding for small fabrication, like guards and roller shafts.
■ Background in packaging, pulp and paper, food production, or a GMP setting.
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
■ Real training before you go solo. You'll train on day shift for your first 3 months alongside the more experienced 1st shift crew before moving to 2nd or 3rd.
■ A manager who stays involved. The Maintenance Manager guides your training, checks in throughout the process to make sure you're getting what you need, and will move you to shadow different people on different machines when you need it.
■ Learn straight from the OEM. OEM techs come in throughout the year, and techs are assigned to shadow them and learn directly from them.
■ Support on the off shifts. There are supervisors on 2nd and 3rd shift, and remote OEM support is available on most machines.
■ A team that talks. Information flows well between shifts, shift change meetings are solid, and crews regularly come in early or stay late to help each other out.
■ Flexibility where it counts. Maintenance works Saturdays, but if you need one off, you just submit a request so the team can plan.
PAY AND BENEFITS
■ $29.31/hr to $39.44/hr, based on skills and experience, plus a $1/hr shift differential.
■ 1.5x pay over 8 hours in a day and over 40 hours in a week, with weekend and holiday premiums.
■ Multiple healthcare plan options, plus retirement plans with additional company contributions.
■ 11 paid holidays.
■ Up to 1 week of vacation in your year of hire, and 2 full weeks in your first full year.
■ Company-provided uniforms and laundering.
■ Safety shoe and safety glasses allowance, plus a tool stipend and replacement program.
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
■ 2nd shift runs 3pm to 11pm, and 3rd shift runs 11pm to 7am. Both are 8-hour shifts.
■ Saturdays are expected unless approved off, with at least 8 hours of overtime a week and more as needed for shift coverage.
■ 90-day orientation on day shift, with a check-in around day 75.
■ This is a large facility, so expect to cover some ground. Plan on about 30% walking, 20% standing, 20% stairs, and some sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and ladder or scaffold work.
■ Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling in the 21–50 lb range, and regular carrying in the 11–20 lb range. Normal vision is required, including color vision and depth perception.
■ PPE is provided: steel toes, eye protection, arc flash uniforms, and ear protection. Non-union facility.
