Location: Rutland, Vermont
We have partnered closely with a prominent regional healthcare network to secure a full-time, dedicated medical professional for their specialty services division. We are currently seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Rheumatologist to join an established clinical team. Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a wide spectrum of complex rheumatic, autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal disorders in accordance with current evidence-based standards of care.
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories, perform detailed physical examinations, and skillfully assess disease activity, functional status, and long-term treatment response.
- Order, interpret, and integrate specialized laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging studies, bone health assessments, and other clinical data to guide clinical decision-making.
- Develop individualized, patient-centered treatment plans featuring both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, lifestyle counseling, and targeted sub-specialty referrals.
- Prescribe and manage advanced therapeutic regimens—including disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biological agents, corticosteroids, and immunomodulatory therapies—while closely monitoring treatment efficacy and medication safety.
- Perform routine office-based procedures within the scope of practice, such as joint injections, aspirations, and other rheumatology-specific interventions as clinically indicated.
- Educate patients and their families regarding chronic diagnoses, treatment alternatives, therapeutic risks/benefits, and long-term self-management strategies.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely electronic medical record (EMR) documentation in full compliance with organizational, payer, and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with primary care providers, specialty physicians, nursing staff, and rehabilitation professionals to deliver coordinated, interdisciplinary chronic disease care.
- Participate actively in clinical protocol development, provider meetings, peer reviews, utilization management, and share in departmental call coverage or organizational initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Training: Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program and an accredited Rheumatology fellowship program.
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Vermont (or immediate eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start date).
- Certifications: Board certification or active board eligibility in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Must maintain an active, unrestricted DEA registration.
- Preferred Experience: Prior outpatient specialty practice experience, proficiency with musculoskeletal ultrasound, advanced osteoporosis management, and strong EMR charting/documentation skills are highly desired.
