Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Technical Designer to join their growing team and play a key role in bringing women's apparel from concept to production. This individual will be responsible for developing accurate technical documentation, executing garment fit, and partnering cross-functionally to ensure products meet the highest standards for quality, fit, and construction.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively throughout the product development process while maintaining brand consistency.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed tech packs, including garment sketches, measurements, grading, construction details, and specifications.
- Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), packaging requirements, care/content labels, carton markings, fold and hanger pack instructions, UPC information, and related documentation.
- Conduct and participate in fit sessions using live models.
- Analyze fit, identify necessary revisions, and communicate clear comments to vendors and internal teams to achieve the desired fit, function, and overall product integrity.
- Review prototypes, fit samples, and pre-production garments in partnership with pattern makers and manufacturing partners.
- Ensure all samples meet established standards for fit, quality, construction, and design intent prior to production.
- Identify development and construction challenges throughout the product lifecycle.
- Recommend practical solutions that balance design aesthetics, functionality, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and external partners to support successful product execution.
- Help ensure projects remain aligned with timelines, quality expectations, and brand standards.
- Utilize expertise in fabrics, trims, garment construction, and manufacturing techniques to support product development and execution.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining quality standards across all products.
- Promote consistency in garment performance, durability, comfort, and overall customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of Technical Design experience within the apparel industry.
- Experience with women's apparel is required; experience in outerwear and/or activewear is preferred.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit evaluation.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong measurement and grading accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and with vendors.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
