Job Description
This second-shift manufacturing leadership role supervises production employees and coordinates daily shop activity to build and ship quality products safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The position requires a hands-on supervisor who can plan work, train employees, manage priorities, solve production issues, and work across departments to meet customer requirements.
The right candidate will be disciplined, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable leading people while also stepping in to support the work when needed. This role combines scheduling, inventory coordination, quality documentation, process improvement, employee coaching, and communication with engineering, sales, vendors, and internal teams.
Primary Responsibilities
· Supervise and coordinate manufacturing employees to meet production, quality, safety, and shipment goals.
· Plan daily work, prepare schedules, expedite workflow, assign tasks, and adjust manpower or overtime based on changing business needs.
· Work with planning/material control teams to create timelines and departmental workloads that support customer shipment dates.
· Develop process plans that consider people, equipment, resources, materials, floor space, and product flow.
· Train new and existing employees, support cross-training, conduct department meetings, and create clear work instructions and procedures.
· Lead quality practices including inspection documentation, engineering deviations, ISO-related procedures, and product/process corrections.
· Investigate and resolve production, customer, quality, materials, and equipment issues in partnership with employees, engineering, sales, vendors, and other departments.
· Create and maintain a safe work environment, complete safety inspections, and ensure employees follow safety rules and procedures.
· Support Lean, 5S, continuous improvement, efficiency, cost awareness, and workforce flexibility across the assigned area.
· Interview, hire, train, coach, appraise, reward, discipline, and resolve employee concerns in accordance with company policy.
Background and Skills
· Manufacturing supervision experience required; experience leading 0-20 employees is strongly preferred.
· Experience in an ISO-certified quality environment preferred.
· Working knowledge of safety compliance; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 is a plus.
· Experience with production scheduling, inventory scheduling, written procedures, training documents, and customer product issue resolution.
· SAP experience is a plus; strong Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general office-system skills required.
· Associate degree or technical education in industrial technology or related field preferred, but equivalent experience may qualify.
· Ability to read safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, blueprints, schedules, and procedure manuals.
· Strong leadership, organization, communication, judgment, delegation, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
· Second-shift schedule with extended evening manufacturing coverage; schedule may require flexibility to meet production demands.
· Active plant-floor environment with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional exposure to heights, fumes, weather, electrical risk, or vibration.
· Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear as required by plant-floor leadership activities.
· Must be able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and frequently or occasionally lift heavier items according to job requirements and safe work practices.
