Process Engineer – Manufacturing

An established thermoplastics manufacturer is seeking a highly independent, hands-on Process Engineer to serve as the primary process-engineering resource for the facility.

This is not a role for someone accustomed to being one member of a large engineering department. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating as an engineering group of one — identifying problems, gathering and analyzing data, developing solutions, implementing improvements, documenting processes, and training others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve existing production/manufacturing processes.
  • Design, run, test, analyze, and upgrade systems and processes.
  • Evaluate production, process-control, and quality systems using data and statistical analysis.
  • Apply working knowledge of statistics, including mean, standard deviation, process variation, and related measurements.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective-action initiatives.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Develop and establish procedures and best practices that support consistent, high-quality operations.
  • Create and revise written procedures and work instructions based on process data and findings.
  • Develop practical and innovative solutions to improve production rates and product quality.
  • Work directly with production, maintenance, quality, and plant leadership to implement improvements.
  • Train employees on new processes, procedures, and process improvements.
  • Support ongoing digitalization and modernization of manufacturing processes.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Production/manufacturing experience as a Process Engineer required.
  • Demonstrated success working independently with significant ownership of the process-engineering function.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills.
  • Root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement experience.
  • Experience developing, testing, analyzing, and improving manufacturing processes.
  • Experience creating and revising SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Strong ability to translate data into practical manufacturing improvements.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with operators, maintenance, quality, and production personnel.
  • Plastics, polymers, thermoplastics, extrusion, compounding, or related process-manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing digitalization, automation, or data-driven process improvement is a plus.

Compensation & Growth

Target compensation is approximately $90,000, with flexibility above that level for a candidate who brings particularly strong experience and capabilities.

The company is looking for someone who can bring new ideas and technical depth to the operation, not simply maintain the status quo. For the right individual, this role may also provide opportunity for broader leadership responsibility as the organization evolves.
