Our client, a very reputable Houston based law firm, is seeking to hire a skilled and experienced paralegal in their Houston office. This position is full-time, at the office, supporting attorneys in both litigation and appeals. Compensation is highly competitive, and benefits include rich insurance plans, generous paid time off, and participation in 401(k) and firm bonus plans.
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Develop e-briefs by expertly adding hyperlinks to internal cross-references, citations to evidence, and authorities for easy access and reference.
  • Create, revise, and maintain a diverse range of legal documents with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy on the firm’s document management system.
  • E-file documents with various state and federal courts to ensure efficient and compliant submissions.
  • Mark and generate tables for briefs to comply with filing rules.
  • Efficiently retrieve cases via Westlaw to support attorneys in their research endeavors. Training to be provided, if necessary.
  • Assist with the creation of electronic oral argument notebooks.
  • Share responsibility for management of Houston office, ensuring a professional and functional environment.
  • Assist in trouble-shooting simple technical issues with guidance from the Firm Administrator and/or IT.
  • Perform administrative tasks including docket calendaring on shared calendar, answering telephones, distributing incoming mail, and occasionally depositing client checks.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a paralegal. Appellate experience a plus.
  • A comprehensive understanding of state and federal court rules and filing procedures to ensure adherence to all regulations.
  • Possess a high level of skill in written English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation with an eye for formatting documents editing and proofreading documents.
  • Advanced proficiency with technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. to produce high-quality legal documents and maintain smooth communication.
  • Proficiency in the day-to-day operations of a legal office.
  • Experience with Coyote or other legal practice management software is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, exhibiting flexibility and adaptability when needed.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Orderly and detail-oriented with ability to prioritize work with accuracy and efficiency while staying focused and calm under pressure.
  • Ability to problem solve using sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact professionally with all levels of staff, clients, and court personnel.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • Willingness to occasionally work overtime to meet critical project requirement.
  • Notary Public or willing to become a Texas Notary Public.
