Location: Smithtown, NY (center of Long Island). This is a full-time, in-office role at a firm with a strong team culture. Well-suited for experienced litigators already based on Long Island or those currently commuting to Manhattan who are ready to bring that level of practice closer to home. Team members commute from across the island, from Great Neck to the Hamptons.

Note: Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of active litigation experience and be admitted to the New York Bar. This is a senior role requiring demonstrated motion practice leadership, deposition experience, and independent case management. Candidates with exclusively insurance defense or in-house backgrounds will generally not be considered.

Job Description

• Evaluate claims, defenses, venue, jurisdiction, procedural posture, leverage points, and litigation roadmaps from intake through resolution
• Lead motion practice including motions to dismiss, summary judgment, emergency applications, discovery motions, and appellate briefing where applicable
• Manage discovery strategy, ESI, subpoenas, expert discovery, witness preparation, and deposition execution across complex matters
• Direct associates, paralegals, and operational support to move matters efficiently and with strategic clarity
• Collaborate with partners and senior counsel on major strategy decisions, trial planning, settlement leverage, and high-stakes client judgment calls
• Handle hearings, conferences, oral arguments, arbitrations, and mediations; lead trial preparation and trial execution
• Manage client relationships with professionalism, responsiveness, and sound business judgment
• Leverage AI-assisted research tools and cloud-based systems to sharpen analysis and strengthen advocacy across an active, varied caseload

Qualifications

• 5+ years of active litigation experience required; 8+ years preferred
• New York Bar admission required
• SDNY/EDNY, New Jersey, and Connecticut admission preferred
• Demonstrated motion practice leadership and deposition experience
• Client management and relationship experience
• Legal writing excellence and strong procedural judgment
• Ability to independently manage active litigation matters across varied practice areas
• Full-time in-office availability in Smithtown, NY
• Insurance defense-focused backgrounds generally do not fit this profile
