Safety Manager – Bilingual in Spanish & English - Wet Utilities Construction

💰 Salary Range: $120,000 – $140,000 (DOE)
Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of company-wide safety initiatives to promote a proactive culture of risk management, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance.
This position requires strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities to drive strategic safety programs and influence decision-making across all levels of the organization. The Safety Manager oversees a team of field safety professionals, ensures smooth incident and claims management processes, and partners closely with Operations, Risk, HR, and Executive Leadership to achieve industry-leading safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy

Lead, mentor, and develop field safety professionals; set clear expectations and foster accountability, trust, and continuous growth.

Enforce safety policies with consistency and fairness while modeling best practices.

Demonstrate adaptability and calm leadership in dynamic, high-pressure field environments.
Presentation & Analytics

Design, track, and analyze safety dashboards, KPIs, and trend reports; translate data into actionable insights.

Prepare and deliver executive-level safety presentations highlighting key risks, progress, and recommendations.

Conduct root cause analyses for incidents and near misses; drive corrective actions and communicate outcomes effectively.
Incident & Claims Management

Oversee the incident reporting and claims process, including investigation, documentation, and closure.

Partner with Risk and HR teams to manage injury cases, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work programs.
Field Engagement & Compliance

Maintain strong field presence through inspections, audits, and observations, ensuring compliance with CAL/OSHA and all regulatory standards.

Collaborate with operations leadership and employees to identify hazards and implement solutions.

Support and refine environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, including IIPP sub-programs.
Employee Engagement & Education

Lead training, orientations, toolbox talks, and incentive programs to enhance safety awareness and ownership.

Foster open communication and a positive safety culture using empathy, emotional intelligence, and active listening.

Address resistance constructively and promote engagement through consistent leadership and support.
Qualifications
-
Language: Bilingual in Spanish (required).

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred).

Experience: Minimum 7+ years of safety leadership experience in construction or field operations.

Certifications: OSHA 10, 30, 500, CSM, CSP, or similar credentials strongly preferred.

Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of CAL/OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.

Technical Skills: Ability to analyze safety data, develop dashboards, and create executive-level reports; advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint required.
