Our client is a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit nursing home located in Schenectady County, NY, and we are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON). The facility offers high-quality, compassionate care to its 250+ residents and is known for its commitment to excellence in long-term care.
Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for leading and managing all nursing services within the facility. Reporting directly to the Administrator, this executive leader ensures high standards of clinical care, regulatory compliance, staffing performance, and fiscal oversight. The Director of Nursing plays a key role on the management team, shaping policies and procedures while driving quality improvement and operational excellence throughout the nursing department.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate all nursing services, ensuring compliance with federal and New York State regulations

Define, implement, and maintain high standards of nursing practice in alignment with accepted standards of care

Supervise all nursing staff, nursing office secretary, health information coordinator, ward clerks, medical records, admissions, MDS, quality assurance, and CNA training program personnel

Manage staffing performance, retention strategies, and workforce planning

Develop and manage the nursing department budget, ensuring responsible financial stewardship

Assess quality of care and lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives

Oversee MDS processes, infection control, nursing rehabilitation, and education systems

Coordinate with laboratory, pharmacy, dental, podiatry, eye care, community medical providers, and nursing agencies as needed

Lead NYSDOH survey preparedness efforts and develop plans of correction as required

Participate in accident and incident review processes and collaborate with Social Services regarding admissions and resident concerns

Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to policy formation and strategic decision-making

Report regularly to the Administrator on nursing department performance and key issues
Requirements:

2+ years of nursing management experience in a long-term care setting

Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Knowledge of long-term care financial management

Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal management skills

Experience with infection control, quality assurance and improvement, staffing, and regulatory compliance

Ability to analyze complex information and lead system-wide improvements
