Systems Engineer
Summary
The System Engineer will implement strategies, evaluate products, and build upon an infrastructure that supports the changing needs of our customers. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, effective communication with stakeholders, and adherence to industry standards and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Become technical subject matter expert for all our products.
· Evaluate customer requirements to match our products to customer applications.
o Prepare design compliance matrices to ensure that our systems meet customer performance and safety requirements.
o Prepare concept design documentation to support RFQ efforts.
· Assist customers and partners in integrating our products into their designs, including
o Communication protocols
o Electrical interfaces
o Mechanical interfaces
· Prepare product specifications.
· Prepare Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA).
· Prepare test specifications.
· Prepare and execute engineering test plans.
· Work closely with customers and partner companies to ensure successful product integration.
o Review partner/customer design documentation as required.
o Identify and resolve integration-related issues.
· Support certification efforts (UL, CSA, etc.) for our products and partner and/or customer products containing our products.
· Ability to travel to
o Customer and partner facilities
o Engineering conferences
o Internationally as needed
Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; a Master’s degree is a plus.
· 5+ years’ experience with battery systems and knowledge of system design with Lead and Lithium-Ion battery technologies.
· Experience with Battery Management System (BMS) communication protocols, i.e., Modbus TCP/IP, CAN bus.
· Experience with fault tree analysis and Design Failure Mode and Effects (DFMEA) analysis.
· Familiar with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) product safety standards such as UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 1741.
· Familiar with fire protection standards involving Lithium-Ion batteries.
Language Ability
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, top managers, clients, customers. Ability to speak Japanese a plus.
Math Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Planning & Organization Skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Effective time management skills and ability to work within tight timeframes. Ability to simultaneously manage several projects/tasks at once. Position may require work after business hours, nights and/or weekends as needed.
Computer Skills
Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project.
Certificates and Licenses
PMP Certification is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not have direct reports.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Travel Requirements
Domestic and/or international travel may be required - less than 25%.
