Spring Coiler Set-up/Operator

Summary:

The Spring Coiler Set-up/Operator is primarily responsible for setting up and operating multiple types of wire coiling machines, while following established processes and procedures. These processes include maintaining the company’s standards of quality by monitoring the quality of the parts being produced, by using measuring instruments such as gauges and calipers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sets up and operates one or more ring coiling machines that automatically coils rings from round, shaped, or flat wire according to blueprints and setup charts.

• Preforms necessary machine adjustments and all required part checks to ensure maximum throughput and optimum product quality.

• Other duties may be assigned.

• Works with team to deliver quality rings to each customer on time, every time.

• Reviews a set-up card to determine the setup procedures to follow, machine attachments required and material specifications for the new part or obtains details from a setup

• Ability to set up and adjust machine to make rings that conform to specifications.

• Control specified dimensions of produced parts and adjusts machine for minor deviations.

• Control and maintain production speeds.

• Selects required machine attachments and tooling and installs them on the machine.

• Verifies material specifications using micrometer or caliper; mounts material on a reel stand and threads the end through the feed rollers, around the arbor and under the cutting tool.

• Adjusts the machine to attain specified tolerances.

• Completes first piece submission by completing a trial run, and measuring the samples for conformance to specifications, before submitting samples for approval.

• Completes production and quality records, as required.

• When necessary, recommends changes of specifications to resolve production problems.

• Makes tools and attachments.

• Does preventative maintenance and complete forms.

• Measure rings for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and gauges during all required part checks.
• Plot statistical data and performs minor adjustments to machine if given tolerance limits are exceeded.

• Sharpen cutoff tools and correct coiling marks.

Qualifications:

• Ability to read and comprehend part specifications, blueprints, equipment manuals, production reports and production schedules.

• Ability to anticipate, communicate, and facilitate solutions to production issues.

• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

• Ability to apply prior manufacturing understanding to carry out spring making instructions unsupervised.

• Required to stand, walk, and use hands regularly.

• Must have experience operating spring coilers.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is preferred.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
