We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Substation Relay Technician to join our team, offering an exciting opportunity to work across various locations in New Jersey. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of substation operations, requiring a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain meticulous and accurate records, reports, and time entries.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair various substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, relays, and control systems.
  • Conduct periodic testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and adjustment of induction and microprocessor relays.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance utilizing advanced test equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and document circuit and equipment loads, completing comprehensive substation reports.
  • Conduct routine inspections of contractor work to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Assist in commissioning engineering tasks, including tracing circuits and calibrating protective relays.
  • Perform switching operations and report any abnormalities to the Dispatcher.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge of substation circuits, equipment, and control systems.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in relay testing and substation commissioning (15kV to 500kV).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel to client utility sites nationwide, including overnight stays.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Onsite relay testing experience with utility companies.
  • Experience in full-lifecycle commissioning and testing of substations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and problem analysis of protection equipment.
  • Familiarity with Doble protection, ProTest, AcSELerator, or Renoserv for apparatus testing.
  • Experience in substation lightning stroke shielding and grounding plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of leading meetings with utility clients.
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
