We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to take on the role of Scrap Buyer Manager, responsible for overseeing the procurement of retail scrap for steelmaking operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of scrap materials, contributing directly to our operational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the procurement and management of retail scrap within an assigned region, covering 1–2 recycling locations.
• Develop and maintain robust relationships with suppliers, including peddlers, auto wreckers, and other scrap generators.
• Identify and engage new scrap sources to maintain a consistent supply chain.
• Collaborate with transportation, scrap inspection, accounting, and operations teams to meet plant requirements.
• Manage an annual purchasing budget of $4–6 million across one state or province.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in buying or receiving scrap or related fields.
• Knowledge of raw material sources and grading systems.
• Understanding of transportation logistics and scrap yard operations.
• Strong skills in negotiation, communication, mathematics, and problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with a cross-functional team.
• High ethical standards coupled with a strong work ethic.
• Willingness to travel weekly to sustain vendor relationships and industry connections.
