Location: Portsmouth, VA

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in our Richmond office. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse array of projects, ranging from transportation structures, such as bridges and ancillary facilities, to waterfront developments including piers, wharves, and bulkheads. This position involves a blend of structural design and inspection tasks, requiring both office-based and fieldwork activities, with some travel obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage technical aspects of projects within your area of expertise.
  • Provide expert engineering advice to project managers, engineers, and clients, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and design instructions.
  • Analyze and resolve design and field issues effectively.
  • Contribute as a technical specialist on diverse engineering projects, ensuring they align with project plans and specifications.
  • Participate in technical societies and contribute to the field through published papers or articles.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of project work.
  • Assist in project scheduling and ensure timely completion.
  • Lead the pursuit process, including proposal creation, cost estimation, contract negotiations, and ensuring project quality and profitability.
  • Attend meetings or events outside of regular working hours as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to project teams and support staff.
  • Prioritize safety by ensuring staff receive necessary training and discussing safety as a key work aspect.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in project engineering.
  • Proven experience in the inspection and/or design of structures such as bridges, roadways, railroads, marinas, and ports.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license.
