We are seeking a seasoned professional with a robust background in accounting and financial management to join a leading nonprofit organization in Rochester, NY. This full-time, direct hire position offers a highly competitive salary range of $92,000 - $138,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience, along with an exceptional benefits package.

Position Overview:

The Director of Accounting will play a pivotal role in overseeing budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting functions. This individual will provide strategic financial leadership to the organization’s largest agency focused on family and community services. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director will manage a team including an Accounting Manager, Contract/Voucher Manager, Client Financial Analyst, and oversee the Adult Guardianship Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage personnel responsible for daily accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all financial reports, including regulatory and consolidated fiscal reports, budget reports, and monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the coordination and completion of independent audits and related external financial reports.
  • Maintain compliance with financial regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Develop financial projections and analyses to aid in strategic decision-making.
  • Implement and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to uphold best practices.
  • Manage relationships with external partners and regulatory agencies to address financial reporting and provider payment issues.
  • Provide financial leadership for the organization, including budget management and strategic support for senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree or CPA is preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in not-for-profit finance and accounting, with at least five years in a managerial or director-level role.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit finance, including accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, lead projects, and handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience with Federal and New York State nonprofit funding models is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships at all organizational levels.
