Role Overview

We are on the lookout for an experienced Senior Solar Systems Design Engineer with a minimum of five years in the field. This role involves leading the engineering and design of innovative solar and energy storage systems for commercial and industrial projects. The position is set in a dynamic environment focusing on advanced technologies such as Tesla Megapacks and sophisticated inverter systems. This role not only involves design but also offers substantial growth potential for those ready to lead cross-functional projects and communicate effectively to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate the feasibility of photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system (ESS) projects.
  • Collect and analyze site-specific data, including electrical, structural, and environmental information.
  • Lead comprehensive system designs, including creating site plans, single-line diagrams (SLDs), conduit schedules, and interconnection packages.
  • Utilize software tools such as PVSyst, Helioscope, HOMER, and SAM for system modeling and performance estimation.
  • Ensure compliance of all designs with NEC, CEC, UL, IEEE, and utility standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, utilities, permitting authorities, and construction teams for successful project execution.
  • Support activities related to permitting, interconnection, and commissioning.
  • Develop and refine internal CAD standards while overseeing drafting workflows.
  • Champion continuous improvement in design templates and engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in designing solar PV and energy storage systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, and developing one-line diagrams.
  • Familiarity with DC/AC coupled systems and integrating energy storage solutions (Tesla, Fluence, PCS, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC 690/705/706, UL 1741-SA, IEEE 1547.
  • Experience with investor-owned utility (IOU) interconnection processes (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, etc.).
  • Excellent skills in documentation and communication.
  • EIT or NABCEP certification is advantageous.
  • Preferably, at least one year of experience in team leadership or mentoring roles.
