We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Chief Information Officer / Associate Vice President, Technology Services to join a respected community college in Rochester, New York. This senior leadership opportunity is ideal for an accomplished IT executive who can align technology strategy with institutional goals, strengthen service delivery, and lead organizational change in a dynamic academic environment. Position Details
Title: Chief Information Officer / Associate Vice President, Technology Services
Location: Rochester, NY
Schedule: Full-time, 12-month, non-contract
Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 annually
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the institution’s technology planning, implementation, and maintenance in support of the college’s mission, strategic plan, and operational goals
- Provide strategic leadership for emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, analytics, automation, and digital platforms
- Help define the future direction of technology utilization across the institution to support student learning, engagement, and success
- Lead departmental realignment and organizational structure updates to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer service
Operations, Infrastructure & Governance
- Oversee technology services in areas including enterprise systems, infrastructure, security, systems integration, desktop computing, web services, customer support, and data governance
- Lead lifecycle planning and replacement strategies for classroom and office technology to ensure reliability, security, and long-term sustainability
- Oversee technology policies, standards, and procedures, including compliance with federal and state regulations related to data protection, digital accessibility, and AI-related requirements
- Exercise budget authority and administrative approvals
Collaboration, Team Leadership & Service Delivery
- Build and lead a high-performing technology leadership team
- Partner with academic and administrative divisions to support day-to-day technology needs and long-term institutional priorities
- Develop collaborative relationships across divisions and with broader SUNY partners
- Support staff development in areas such as AI literacy, data analytics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies
- Serve as a liaison to committees and initiatives related to technology governance, data strategy, AI ethics, accessibility, and digital innovation
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of five years of progressive administrative experience leading information technology organizations, including personnel management
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnerships and work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations on complex issues
- Strong background in information security frameworks, standards, policies, tools, and techniques
- Experience integrating data into decision-making and leading progressive organizational change
- Experience overseeing multifaceted systems, managing complex projects, and addressing technological, organizational, and budget challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a diverse higher education environment
- Previous experience as a Chief Information Officer
- Experience implementing, governing, or strategically evaluating AI-driven tools and platforms
- Familiarity with higher education systems such as Ellucian Banner, Slate, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Microsoft 365, and Argos
- Bilingual skills, including Spanish or other languages, are a plus
