A premier skilled nursing facility is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and compassionate Recreation Director to lead their activities department. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative professional dedicated to enhancing the quality of life, socialization, and overall mental and physical well-being of the residents. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of therapeutic programming tailored to a long-term care population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, therapeutic recreation program tailored to the varied needs, interests, and capabilities of residents
- Create and post diverse monthly activity calendars featuring social, creative, physical, spiritual, and intellectual programs
- Conduct initial and ongoing recreational assessments for residents, documenting progress notes and contributing directly to individualized interdisciplinary care plans
- Supervise, mentor, and schedule recreation assistants and coordinate facility volunteer programs
- Oversee specialized programming for room-bound residents and those requiring distinct cognitive or physical adaptations
- Manage the department's budget, tracking expenses, ordering recreational supplies, and ensuring efficient allocation of resources
- Coordinate special facility events, community outings, and seasonal holiday celebrations
- Ensure all programming and documentation comply strictly with state, federal, and organizational healthcare regulations
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience working specifically within a nursing home or long-term care setting required
- Proven track record in a supervisory or managerial role within a therapeutic recreation or activities department
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or Activity Director Certified (ADC) is highly preferred
- Strong organizational, event planning, and budget management capabilities
- Outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills, with an innate ability to connect with seniors and their families
- Strong knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) and state/federal regulations governing long-term care facilities
