Job Title: Lead Refrigeration Engineer
Position Overview
Under general direction, the Lead Refrigeration Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing new and updated walk-in refrigeration system designs from conception through prototyping. This role actively assists in the manufacturing process by troubleshooting and resolving complex refrigeration engineering problems.
Duties and Responsibilities

Product Development: Prepare, design, and manage products and refrigeration systems from conception through completion for both existing and next-generation designs.

Technical Design: Utilize specialized drafting software to create detailed technical drawings, develop comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assist in routing processes.

System Calculations: Determine required system capacities and perform complex calculations for factors such as structural loads and piping sizes; lay out designs utilizing drafting software.

Integration & Systems Design: Seamlessly integrate refrigeration systems and technical designs into overarching product assemblies.

Documentation & Literature: Revise existing product literature, technical manuals, and specification guides to ensure consistency; author technical data sheets for specification manuals, price lists, and product catalogs.

Vendor & Material Assessment: Collaborate with internal purchasing teams and manufacturer representatives to assess the suitability of vendor-supplied parts and components for agency-approved products.

Market Insights & Continuous Improvement: Seek input on marketplace needs and trends from internal and external sources to identify cost-reduction and product-improvement opportunities.

Team Mentorship: Provide professional mentoring and technical guidance to colleagues regarding mechanical and refrigeration design concepts.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Engineering Concepts: Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering concepts directly related to specialized commercial product lines.

Compliance & Standards: Considerable knowledge of regulatory agency standards applying to the design and manufacture of commercial refrigeration equipment (including Underwriters Laboratories/UL, Department of Energy/DOE, etc.).

Drafting Software: High proficiency in engineering design and drafting software, as well as general productivity suites.

Problem-Solving: Proven ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve highly complex engineering and manufacturing challenges.

Communication: Strong technical writing skills and the ability to articulate design concepts clearly to cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
