Overview
A public-sector–focused engineering organization is seeking a Senior Technical Project Engineer (PE-4 level) with deep expertise in roadway and transportation design. This role serves as a senior technical authority within Public Works projects, supporting advanced roadway design, DOT standards compliance, and high-level project delivery.
This position is well suited for an experienced Professional Engineer who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and shaping roadway design standards for complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities

Lead advanced roadway and transportation design projects in compliance with federal, state, and local DOT standards.

Serve as the technical authority for Public Works roadway projects, ensuring quality, accuracy, and constructability.

Review, approve, and stamp final engineering plan sets as required.

Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers, EITs, designers, and project teams.

Oversee project deliverables to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality expectations are met.

Prepare and review technical reports, including hydraulic and utility reports.

Support project pursuits, feasibility studies, interviews, and technical due diligence.

Represent projects at public agency meetings and technical coordination sessions.

Research and implement roadway design best practices, tools, and workflows.
Required Qualifications

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

12–15 years of experience in transportation and roadway planning and/or final design.

Strong knowledge of DOT roadway standards and Public Works project delivery.

Civil 3D

OpenRoads Designer

Bluebeam
-
Pipe network and utility design tools

Ability to independently manage projects under $200K.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to serve as a technical expert or expert witness if required.
Compensation
-
Salary Range: $134,400 – $163,000
-
Target Offer Range: $140,000 – $150,000
-
Likely Starting Offer: ~$143,000 (with flexibility for strong candidates)

Visa candidates: Considered only if transferring an existing visa

Minimum 3 years of stable employment history with current employer required

Licensure:

PE licenses from other states accepted if issued by states with high engineering standards

Candidates relocating from Texas or Oklahoma are not considered

Preference for candidates already in Arizona or already planning to relocate
