A top-10 AmLaw firm is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join its National Security & Global Trade practice. This is an excellent opportunity to work on sophisticated, cross-border matters involving economic sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, and national security issues. The role offers exposure to complex corporate and financial transactions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams representing leading multinational clients.
Candidate Profile
- JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record
- Active Bar Admission in the relevant jurisdiction, in good standing
- Washington, D.C.-barred candidates preferred
- 3-4 years of substantive experience in national security, international trade, or related regulatory matters
- Experience advising on U.S. economic sanctions (OFAC), export controls (EAR/ITAR), and CFIUS
- Background supporting cross-border transactions involving trade or national security considerations
- Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Large law firm or in-house experience preferred
- Prior experience with U.S. government agencies or regulators is a plus
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, writing, and strategic thinking skills, strong attention to detail, good business judgment, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on U.S. economic sanctions, including compliance, risk assessments, licensing, and enforcement matters
- Counsel on export controls under EAR and ITAR frameworks
- Support CFIUS and national security reviews, including filings, mitigation strategies, and agency coordination
- Conduct diligence on sanctions, export control, and national security risks in M&A, private equity, and financing transactions
- Draft and review compliance policies, contractual provisions, and disclosures related to trade risks
- Assist with internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, and responses to government inquiries
- Collaborate with cross-functional legal teams on complex, multinational matters

- Competitive Compensation: Annual base salary is expected to range from $260,000 – $310,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and market factors
