Application Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Application Engineer to join our team, serving as the critical link between customer needs and the development of efficient and profitable automated machinery solutions. This is a full-time, on-site position which requires occasional travel to meet customer and project demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Collaborate with customers and the sales team to understand the application requirements and define product specifications.
- Solution Development: Design machine concepts and configurations that meet customer needs while ensuring technical feasibility and safety.
- Proposal Preparation: Assist in the preparation of accurate quotes, including technical descriptions, material estimates, and performance assumptions.
- Project Coordination: Facilitate a seamless transition from proposal acceptance to engineering and operations, ensuring all requirements and assumptions are clearly documented.
- Support and Improvement: Provide ongoing support throughout the project lifecycle and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by capturing lessons learned and developing standards.
Performance Metrics
- Timely and accurate completion of technical proposals.
- Alignment of proposed solutions with customer requirements and company capabilities.
- Effective management of cost and margin protection through comprehensive estimates and risk visibility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of three years of experience in applications engineering or related roles.
- Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, and familiarity with automated machinery systems.
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools and standard business software; familiarity with ERP, CRM, or quoting systems is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with custom machinery, automation, or robotics.
- Background in cycle-time analysis, cost estimating, and factory acceptance testing.
- Exposure to ISO 9001 quality management systems or structured operating systems.
Location
This position is based in the greater Newark, NJ area, and involves on-site work with no remote options available.
