SAFETY DIRECTOR – CONSTRUCTION

Location: Southern California

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: $125,000–$160,000 base salary, plus discretionary performance bonus

ParkerBeth Search Partners is recruiting a Safety Director for a long-established Southern California contractor specializing in HOA, multifamily, commercial painting, and reconstruction.

This is a field-driven leadership role with company-wide responsibility for safety, compliance, and risk management. The company needs an experienced construction safety professional who can own Cal/OSHA, lead, asbestos, respiratory protection, fall protection, scaffolding, and high-risk field operations across Southern California.

The timing is significant. The organization is preparing for a major high-rise project in Los Angeles involving 18 towers, lead-based paint, asbestos considerations, elevated work, and substantial field coordination. The Safety Director will have direct access to executive leadership and the authority to stop work when serious hazards are identified.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

• Build and own the company-wide safety function
• Direct access to executive and production leadership
• Authority to stop unsafe work
• High-rise, lead, asbestos, and suspended-access exposure
• Established contractor with more than 50 years in business
• Opportunity to create lasting systems and standards
• Primarily field-based role with broad operational influence

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Develop and improve company-wide safety policies and programs
• Maintain compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, EPA, and CDPH requirements
• Conduct regular jobsite inspections and drive corrective action
• Own IIPP, respiratory protection, heat illness, hazard communication, fall protection, lead, asbestos, and silica programs
• Develop project-specific safety plans and Job Hazard Analyses
• Oversee scaffolding, swing stages, aerial lifts, and elevated work
• Manage lead-based paint and asbestos compliance requirements
• Establish and enforce stop-work protocols
• Coordinate with industrial hygienists and environmental consultants
• Lead incident, near-miss, vehicle, and exposure investigations
• Deliver new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, and supervisor training
• Maintain certification, fit-testing, medical, and regulatory records
• Track incidents, corrective actions, training completion, and workers’ compensation trends

WHAT YOU BRING

• Seven or more years of progressive construction safety experience
• At least three years in a safety leadership or management role
• Current EPA RRP Certified Renovator certification
• Current CDPH Lead-Related Construction Supervisor certification
• Current AHERA Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor training
• Strong Cal/OSHA, OSHA, EPA, and CDPH knowledge
• Direct experience with lead, asbestos, respiratory protection, and fall protection
• Experience with scaffolding, swing stages, aerial lifts, and elevated work
• Strong incident-investigation and root-cause-analysis skills
• Painting, reconstruction, restoration, or occupied multifamily experience preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Base salary: $125,000–$160,000, depending on credentials and experience
• Discretionary performance bonus
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• 401(k), subject to company plan
• Vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement

This role is best suited for a practical safety leader who is credible in the field, technically strong, and comfortable holding operations accountable when schedule or production pressure conflicts with safety requirements.
