Site Safety & Health Supervisor (SSHS) – Public Works

Santa Clara County, CA | $120,000–$150,000 Base | 4-Year Water Treatment Plant Project

At ParkerBeth, we partner with infrastructure builders who take safety seriously—and this role is designed for senior safety professionals who lead with authority, experience, and accountability.

We’re hiring a Site Safety and Health Supervisor (SSHS) for a major water treatment plant project in Santa Clara County supporting Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD). This is a full-time, on-site role tied to a four-year project assignment, offering long-term stability and real ownership of site safety.

Our client is a respected heavy civil contractor delivering complex water, wastewater, and public works projects across California. Safety is not a checkbox here—it’s a core value backed by leadership.

If you’re an experienced safety leader with deep water treatment plant experience and the confidence to own safety end-to-end, this is a high-impact opportunity.

Why This Role Stands Out

Sole Safety Authority
This is a dedicated safety leadership role. You are the on-site authority responsible for developing, enforcing, and maintaining the full Safety & Health Program.

High-Profile Public Infrastructure
Lead safety oversight on a large-scale water treatment plant with complex scopes, multiple trades, and strict regulatory requirements.

Long-Term Stability
A four-year project assignment allows you to build and sustain a proactive safety culture over the life of the project.

Leadership Support
Safety-first culture with real backing from project and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated SSHS responsible for plan execution and compliance

  • Ensure safety plans are maintained on-site and acknowledged by all personnel

  • Verify compliance with Cal/OSHA, CCR, and applicable federal regulations

Site Safety Oversight

  • Lead safety meetings and site-wide safety communications

  • Identify hazards based on site conditions, activities, and historical risks

  • Adjust safety controls as scope, sequencing, or conditions change

  • Coordinate safety standards across subcontractors and crews

  • Maintain accurate training records, incident reports, and compliance logs

Hazard Control & Emergency Response

  • Oversee safety practices for hazardous materials, confined space entry, excavation, and spill prevention

  • Ensure PPE programs, exposure controls, and medical monitoring are in place

  • Maintain and implement the Emergency Response Program

  • Ensure emergency procedures, equipment access, and medical response readiness

Ideal Candidate

  • 15+ years of construction safety experience

  • Minimum 5 years on water treatment plant construction

  • 7+ years as a Safety Manager on major facilities or treatment plants

  • Experience on two or more water/wastewater treatment plants, with at least one exceeding $50M

  • CHST certification required

  • Comfortable serving as the sole, on-site safety authority

  • Available on-site full-time and accessible 24/7 by approved means

Compensation & Role Details

  • Base Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 (DOE)

  • Full-time, on-site position

  • 4-year project assignment

  • Outdoor construction environment with active operations

  • Regular interaction with crews, PMs, and public agency representatives

This is not a support role—it’s a leadership position for a safety professional trusted to protect people, enforce standards, and set the tone on a critical public infrastructure project.
