THE OPPORTUNITY

Pro Services Workforce Solutions is partnered with a paper-based protective packaging manufacturer in Kalamazoo, MI for a direct hire Industrial Maintenance Technician opportunity.

There are openings on both 2nd and 3rd shift, one technician for each.

This is a multicraft role. You'll diagnose, repair, rebuild, and replace mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, handle preventive maintenance, and answer breakdown calls in a busy production environment. The work leans mechanical, but electrical is where this team needs the most help, so a tech who brings real electrical skills will stand out.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

This facility makes the packaging that goes inside the box. Working with paper and glue, the team produces protective packaging in just about any shape a customer needs.

It's a facility actively investing in its maintenance department, and plant leadership came up through maintenance. They understand the work, they give the team the tools to be successful, and they've been selective about who joins the crew because they want it to stay a tight-knit group.

Pro Services is recruiting for this site and stands behind this team as a place where a skilled technician can build a long-term career.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The biggest thing this team is looking for is initiative. You have the want and the will to do the job. You don't sit around waiting to be told what's next. You jump in, you want to learn, and you're comfortable stepping back to figure something out on your own.

You make your own calls. When a machine goes down mid-shift, you size up what you have to work with, weigh your options, and act. Most of the work here is reactive, so you're steady and decisive when things don't go to plan.

You bring energy to the shift. You want to be there, and it shows. You're positive, organized, and reliable, and you take pride in your work. You also want to keep growing, especially on the electrical side, even if you're not an electrician yet. Safety, Pride, Integrity, and Teamwork mean something to you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

■    Maintain production equipment including the core machine, panel line, slitter, die-cutter, assembly line, shredder, baler, and air compressor.

■    Respond to breakdown calls and troubleshoot equipment issues. About 80% of the work is reactive and 20% is scheduled.

■    Perform reactive and planned maintenance on both the electrical and mechanical side, plus proactive work to keep equipment running.

■    Diagnose, repair, rebuild, or replace mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.

■    Work on 480V three-phase equipment and use meters to troubleshoot safely.

■    Troubleshoot PLC hardware back to the cards on Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems.

■    Handle routine hydraulic upkeep, like keeping oil levels topped off, and rebuild hoses with the onsite crimper. Larger hydraulic jobs go to an outside vendor.

■    Work safely as part of a team on preventive maintenance and keep work areas clean.

WHAT YOU BRING

■    3+ years of industrial maintenance experience. Less experience will be considered if you have electrical or controls knowledge and can troubleshoot safely.

■    Basic to intermediate electrical skills, including 480V three-phase work and confident meter use.

■    Basic mechanical skills.

■    PLC hardware troubleshooting experience.

■    Your own tools.

■    Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift, overtime, and Saturdays as needed.

NICE TO HAVE

■    Experience with control voltage (0–24V) and 110–240V single phase, plus cabinet troubleshooting and reading electrical schematics.

■    Work on motors, servos, VFDs, transformers, relays, I/O modules, wiring, sensors, and HMIs.

■    Intermediate or advanced mechanical experience, including mechanical rebuilds, conveyors, bearings, shafts and seals, and gearboxes.

■    Basic hydraulic and pneumatic experience, including hydraulic cylinder rebuilds, and work on positive displacement, air diaphragm, and centrifugal pumps.

■    Basic MIG, TIG, or stick welding.

■    Background in packaging, pulp and paper, corrugated systems, or a GMP environment.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

■    No micromanaging. Leadership sees their role as supporting the team, not hovering over it.

■    Your ideas get a real shot. If you have an idea to make something better, you'll get the go-ahead to try it, and leadership is willing to put money behind it.

■    Investment in maintenance. This plant is putting real resources into its maintenance department.

■    Room to grow. All maintenance technician positions here are multicraft, and training is provided to build those skills.

■    A crew that covers for each other. The team communicates well and works together to keep every shift covered.

PAY AND BENEFITS

■    $28/hr to $33/hr, based on skills and experience, plus a $0.50/hr shift differential on 2nd and 3rd shift.

■    1.5x pay over 8 hours in a day and over 40 hours in a week, with weekend and holiday premiums.

■    Multiple healthcare plan options, plus retirement plans with additional company contributions.

■    11 paid holidays.

■    Up to 1 week of vacation in your year of hire, and 2 full weeks in your first full year.

■    Company-provided uniforms and laundering.

■    Safety shoe and safety glasses allowance, plus a tool stipend and replacement program.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

■    Five 8-hour shifts. 2nd shift runs 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 3rd shift runs 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

■    Expect about 8 hours of overtime a week. Saturday overtime is mandatory often, but never on holidays.

■    A mix of sitting and standing (about 30% each), bending and turning at the waist (about 20%), plus some walking, squatting, kneeling, stairs, and ladder or scaffold work.

■    Occasional lifting and carrying in the 21–50 lb range, and pushing and pulling in the 11–20 lb range.

■    Walking surfaces can be wet, slippery, or vibrating. Normal vision is required, including color vision and depth perception.

■    Required PPE: safety glasses, electrical-rated steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs. Non-union facility.
