Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer (Professional Engineer – PE) to join their growing Tampa team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in structural analysis and design, paired with hands-on field experience. This role involves investigating building failures, conducting forensic engineering evaluations, preparing technical reports, and providing litigation support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform field inspections to document existing conditions and assess structural damage.
  • Investigate cause and origin of failures from natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes) and human-related issues (design flaws, construction errors).
  • Apply building codes and structural principles to develop accurate evaluations and repair recommendations.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Author detailed technical reports and communicate findings with clients and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, code officials, contractors, and insurance professionals.
  • Manage multiple assignments, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Travel occasionally on short notice for inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience with strong knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and building envelope systems.
  • Active Florida PE license (NCEES record and ability to obtain multi-state licensure a plus).
  • In-depth knowledge of ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in forensic engineering, structural assessments, and construction consulting.
  • Litigation support/expert testimony experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization and a clean driving record.
