Note: Employees will work remotely when not in court or meeting with clients, but must be based in the Washington, D.C. area.

Note: The qualified candidate for this position must have an active D.C. Bar license and a minimum of 3–5 years of criminal defense experience.

Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join their Washington, D.C. team. This role is ideal for a litigator who thrives in high-stakes environments and wants the opportunity to handle serious felony and misdemeanor cases at the local, state, and federal levels.

  • Represent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings, from arraignment through trial
  • Prepare and argue motions, conduct negotiations, and handle plea agreements
  • Draft motions, pleadings, and appellate briefs with precision and clarity
  • Advise clients on case strategy, rights, and potential outcomes
  • Appear in court regularly for hearings, motions, and trials
  • Collaborate with investigators, fellow attorneys, and support staff to ensure comprehensive case preparation
  • Manage a demanding caseload while maintaining accuracy and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active and in good standing with the D.C. Bar
  • 3-5+ years of proven criminal defense experience, with significant trial exposure
  • Exceptional oral advocacy, negotiation, and legal writing skills
  • Strong organizational ability to manage a high caseload
  • Dedication to ethical, client-centered advocacy
