Our client in the metal and steel fabrication industry located in Mississauga is hiring for a Production Supervisor for afternoon shift. The hired candidate will be responsible for leading a team of 30-40 production workers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, maintaining quality standards and meeting production targets. Job Description

The Production Supervisor for the afternoon shift holds a pivotal position in supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the designated production department. Your duties will encompass leading a workforce of production employees, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, upholding quality benchmarks, and achieving production objectives.

 

Job Duties:

·       Ensure safe work practices and compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.

·       Supervise and coordinate the activities of production workers to ensure efficient and timely completion of production requirements.

·       Plan and supervise daily production operations in the assigned area anticipating production issues (i.e., material shortages, equipment malfunctions, rush orders, etc.) to minimize downtime and ensure production, safety and quality objectives are achieved.

·       Participate in selection/interview process, job safety orientation and employee performance reviews.

·       Train, mentor, and motivate production staff to enhance their skills, productivity, and overall performance.

·       Lead daily stand-up meetings.

·       Develop and update manufacturing work instructions and documentation as required.

·       Administer provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement while providing clear expectations, consistent accountability, and regular feedback.

·       Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department such as health and safety inspections and reports, payroll adjustments, production, and maintenance reports.

·       Coordinate maintenance and production activities to ensure preventive maintenance work is completed on schedule.

·       In conjunction with Lean manufacturing philosophy, identify, develop and implement continuous improvement programs in productivity and 5S culture, such as work simplification, labour balancing, bottleneck management, process changes or improvements in methods or equipment.

·       Participate in and implement change driven from Lean initiatives such as Kaizen workshops, SMED’s, 5S. Act as Project Leader if required.

·       Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field (preferred) OR equivalent work experience.

·       Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment

·       Welding Certification an Asset. (i.e Welding Supervsior)

·       Flexibility to work both day and afternoon shifts, and a willingness for overtime as needed.

·       Training begins on the Day shift (6:00am to 2:30pm)

·       Shift required: Afternoon (4:00pm to 12:30am)

·       Demonstrated supervisory experience with health and safety in an industrial establishment.

·       Ability to read shop details/drawings for welding/fabrication.

·       Experience training employees on welding and/or machine operations.

·       Advanced computer skills including Google Workspace and manufacturing software.

·       Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.

·       Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse teams.

·       Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills, with a focus on finding practical solutions to complex issues.

·       Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations.

·       Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

·       Fluent in English
