Contract Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) Process Engineer
Position Summary
Our client has a refinery that is seeking a highly skilled Contract Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) Process Engineer to join our team in driving the early stages of capital projects within the refining sector. This role is crucial in performing feasibility analyses, creating conceptual designs, and developing comprehensive Process Design Packages (PDPs) to ensure projects are technically sound, economically viable, and aligned with operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead FEED and conceptual engineering stages for capital projects with budgets ranging from $500K to $5MM.
- Conduct feasibility studies and simulation-based evaluations for both new installations and modifications.
- Develop and review critical Process Design Packages, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat & Mass Balances, and equipment sizing and specifications.
- Utilize simulation tools like Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, or similar for process modeling.
- Prepare detailed specifications for distillation columns, reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and related equipment.
- Support Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), perform relief calculations, review flare systems, and ensure compliance with process safety standards.
- Develop economic justifications, conduct risk assessments, and draft comprehensive project scope documentation.
- Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), Reliability, Asset Management, and Operations teams to ensure seamless integration with existing refinery infrastructure.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and ensure adherence to engineering and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 8 to 30 years of experience in refining or petrochemical operations.
- Extensive knowledge of refinery processes.
- Proficiency in process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS and PRO/II.
- Proven experience in supporting capital project development through FEED phases.

This position is ideal for an engineer with strong technical proficiency and capital project experience who excels in early-stage project definition, enhancing unit reliability and efficiency, and delivering high-quality FEED packages ready for detailed engineering. The contract is initially set to last until the end of 2026, with the possibility of extension.
