About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading global automotive manufacturing company with a major High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) operation in Wisconsin.

They are looking for an experienced Tooling Engineer who understands HPDC tooling from both an engineering and production perspective. This person will be responsible for supporting the development, design, troubleshooting, maintenance and continuous improvement of HPDC dies used in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on, onsite manufacturing position. The successful candidate will work closely with production, engineering, tooling suppliers and other cross-functional teams to resolve tooling issues and improve die performance, uptime, quality and die life.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, modify and maintain high-pressure die casting tooling
  • Troubleshoot tooling and die-related issues directly within a production environment
  • Analyze tooling downtime and dimensional data and develop corrective solutions
  • Support improvements involving:
    • Die filling
    • Thermal balance
    • Venting
    • Die life
    • Cooling/water systems
    • Tooling reliability
    • Dimensional repeatability
  • Create and maintain tooling CAD, drawings, revisions and spare-part documentation
  • Support new tool builds, modifications, cavity replacements and die components
  • Work with tooling suppliers and internal manufacturing teams
  • Participate in tooling design reviews and technical problem-solving
  • Support PPAP and manufacturing acceptance activities
  • Assist with tooling quotations, budgets, timelines and procurement
  • Support production during tooling trials, launches and ongoing manufacturing
  • Maintain accurate tooling documentation and revision control
  • Work with cross-functional teams to improve quality, uptime and production performance
  • Provide hands-on support when tooling issues require immediate attention

 

Required Qualifications

The following are considered absolute requirements:

  • Direct High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) tooling experience
  • Experience working with HPDC dies/tooling in an actual manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of die design and tooling
  • Proficiency with CAD
  • Experience troubleshooting and modifying dies
  • Ability to work directly with manufacturing/production teams
  • Strong mechanical/tooling understanding
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical education OR strong Journeyman Tool & Die Maker background
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work 100% onsite
  • Ability to support production needs outside normal hours when required, including occasional evening/weekend support

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive manufacturing experience
  • Aluminum HPDC experience
  • Die casting tooling design
  • Die repair/modification experience
  • Die cooling/water-line experience
  • Venting and thermal-balance experience
  • Die filling knowledge
  • Die-life improvement
  • Flow simulation experience such as MAGMASOFT or similar
  • PPAP/APQP experience
  • CMM/dimensional data experience
  • Experience with tooling suppliers and tool builds
  • Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks or similar CAD systems
  • CNC/toolmaking background
  • Journeyman Toolmaker certification


Relocation

Candidates outside the immediate area may be considered if they are genuinely willing to relocate to Northeast Wisconsin.
