Service Technician / Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Location: Gladstone, MI
Overview
This role is ideal for a skilled mechanic who enjoys hands-on work, problem‑solving, and maintaining complex heavy equipment. The Service Technician performs repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on forestry and logging machinery such as harvesters and forwarders.
Key Responsibilities

Diagnose, rebuild, and repair heavy logging equipment

Perform inspections and preventative maintenance

Maintain accurate service records and documentation

Support and mentor junior team members as needed

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday

Ability to lift and move items over 50 lbs

Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus the ability to adjust focus

Required Education & Experience

Two-year degree in a heavy equipment technician program or

Three years of experience/training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems

Ability to read and interpret schematics

Experience with acetylene and electric arc welding
Language Skills

Ability to read and understand written instructions and basic correspondence

Ability to write simple reports or communications

Ability to communicate effectively in one‑on‑one or small group settings
