Service Technician / Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Location: Gladstone, MI

Overview

This role is ideal for a skilled mechanic who enjoys hands-on work, problem‑solving, and maintaining complex heavy equipment. The Service Technician performs repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on forestry and logging machinery such as harvesters and forwarders.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, rebuild, and repair heavy logging equipment

• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance

• Maintain accurate service records and documentation

• Support and mentor junior team members as needed

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday

• Ability to lift and move items over 50 lbs

• Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus the ability to adjust focus

• Clear verbal communication and hearing required

Required Education & Experience

• Two-year degree in a heavy equipment technician program or

• Three years of experience/training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems

• Ability to read and interpret schematics

• Experience with acetylene and electric arc welding

Language Skills

• Ability to read and understand written instructions and basic correspondence

• Ability to write simple reports or communications

• Ability to communicate effectively in one‑on‑one or small group settings

• Fluent in English
