The Role:

Taking on the role of Director of Academic Advisory and Disability Support Services, your role encompasses leadership and coordination of these vital areas across a range of service area. You will oversee the centralized Academic Advising Center, working with a dedicated team to provide strategic direction, advocacy, and continuous improvement of advising practices. Collaboration with academic departments, student support units, and the Director of Mental Health Support Services will be essential to ensure student success and equitable access to accommodations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for the Academic Advising Center.
  • Lead development of innovative strategies for student contact and service.
  • Manage budgets, allocate resources, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for advisors, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Educate faculty about ADA compliance and disability services annually.
  • Develop and oversee data tracking, reporting, and analysis
  • Implement initiatives to increase retention and outcomes measures.
  • Provide developmental academic advising.
  • Assist students in finding resources, navigating the registration process, interpreting placement scores, curricula, and prerequisites.
  • Understand student financial assistance programs.
  • Manage academic advising caseloads for retention and success.
  • Assist students and support the team in developing Academic Completion Plans.
  • Utilize a communication plan to engage students and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure faculty's implementation of accommodations.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, federal, and state regulations.
  • Oversee assessment and approval of accommodations for students.
  • Interview, supervise, and compensate support personnel.
  • Select assistive equipment and teach students its use.
  • Coordinate the disability program with campus initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Promote respect diversity and inclusivity and establish an inclusive environment.
  • Actively participate in professional development and committees.
  • Ensure all responsibilities comply with FERPA and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or related discipline is required.
  • 3 years of working in higher education
  • 3 years of supervision experience is required indicating a proven ability to lead a team
  • 2 years experience with data strategy; specifically focused on retention
  • Must have previous experience and interest in working with a diverse student population
  • Must have an excellent track record for timely communication and time management
  • Must be willing to advocate for student development and success.
  • Must be willing to stay current on academic programs, curriculum, and policies.
  • Must have working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications including student records management systems and online social media tools.
  • Must have administrative and organizational skills along with strong customer service attributes
