Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company financial policies

Job Costing & Project Accounting

  • Manage and maintain accurate job costing systems across all projects
  • Oversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, including revenue recognition and cost tracking
  • Partner with project managers to review project financial performance, budgets, and forecasts
  • Analyze job profitability and provide actionable insights to leadership

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategy

  • Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts aligned with company goals
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial health of the business
  • Identify risks and opportunities within project pipelines and overall operations

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Implement and improve accounting systems, controls, and workflows
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, estimating, and executive leadership

Compliance & Controls

  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with all financial regulations
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and external reporting requirements
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and financial partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 7–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in construction or mechanical contracting
  • Strong expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project-based financials
  • Experience managing accounting teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
  • Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner with both finance and operations teams

Preferred Experience

  • Background in HVAC, plumbing, or industrial mechanical contracting
  • Experience with multi-project, high-revenue construction environments
  • CPA or CMA certification
