In this role, you will:

  • Partner with the site Controls Engineering Manager to develop power and control standards and ensure consistent application within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Validate MES data from PLCs into Proficy and support Plant Engineers in conditioning PLC data to enable effective data analysis and application development.

  • Own the accuracy, reliability, and ongoing maintenance of site sustainability metering systems (power monitors and flow meters), and leverage power monitoring data to develop plans that reduce energy consumption and operating costs.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the design and implementation of machine control and process automation solutions, including control strategies, HMI design, MES applications, and KPI development.

  • Collaborate with the Controls Engineering Manager, department leadership, and technicians to identify failure root causes and develop countermeasure strategies to improve safety, quality, reliability, and cost performance.

  • Own key elements of power and control systems, including electrical safety programs (LOTO, electrical PPE, energized work permits, low-voltage qualification, etc.) and Quality/CCP compliance systems (checkweighers, metal detectors, vision systems, ingredient flow monitoring, temperature controls, etc.).

  • Work closely with engineering and operations leaders on the selection, installation, and start-up of new equipment.

  • Serve as project manager for electrical and instrumentation (E&I) focused initiatives.

  • Provide power and controls engineering support for capital projects as required.

  • Support other areas of the plant as business needs dictate.

  • Ensure compliance with local and national regulatory codes (NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, OSHA 1910) and enforce safe work practices and equipment compliance within the assigned area.

  • Demonstrate strong technical system knowledge and the ability to learn and integrate new technologies.

  • Utilize plant systems software such as Proficy, project management tools, and eAM systems.

  • Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to motivate and influence others.

  • Apply strong organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Communicate effectively through presentations and written and verbal communication.

  • Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Travel as required and demonstrate flexibility to work off-shifts or weekends when needed.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant controls engineering experience.

  • At least 2 years of experience leading and developing others, such as maintenance technicians or engineers.

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.

  • Experience coaching E&I technicians and supporting the development of a sustainable plant-wide E&I skills program.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for plant power and control systems and act as a key member of the plant’s technical leadership team.

  • Strong technical depth across Rockwell hardware and software platforms, power distribution systems, and instrumentation.

  • Proven ability to lead root cause analysis efforts related to controls-based failures.

  • Controls or electrical experience within food or other GMP manufacturing environments preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of machine and process control hardware, instrumentation, and software, including Allen-Bradley PLCs and Rockwell FactoryTalk platforms.
